The India vs West Indies 2nd ODI in Guwahati became one of the biggest run-fests in ODI history. West Indies scored 405/7, with three batters hitting centuries. India then made the chase look easy and reached 406 in just 43.3 overs.
Shubman Gill led India with an unbeaten 223, while Rohit Sharma also scored a century. India’s huge win also brought many new records for Gill, Rohit, India, West Indies and ODI cricket.
Here are 29 major records and milestones from India vs West Indies 2nd ODI.
1. Shubman Gill became only the second player to score 200 while chasing in ODIs
Shubman Gill became only the second batter in ODI history to score a double century while batting second.
Before Gill, the only player to achieve the feat was Australia’s Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell scored an unbeaten 201 against Afghanistan during the 2023 ODI World Cup at Mumbai.
Gill went one step further by remaining unbeaten on 223.
| Player | Score | Opponent | Venue | Year |
| Shubman Gill | 223* | West Indies | Guwahati | 2026 |
| Glenn Maxwell | 201* | Afghanistan | Mumbai | 2023 |
The difference was also the match situation. Gill’s 223 came while India were chasing a target of 406, making the innings one of the most remarkable successful chases in ODI cricket.
2. Gill’s 223* is the highest individual score in an ODI run chase
Gill’s unbeaten 223 is now the highest individual score ever recorded while batting second in an ODI.
He went past Maxwell’s 201* from the 2023 World Cup. Gill also moved past MS Dhoni’s famous 183* against Sri Lanka in Jaipur in 2005, which had remained India’s highest individual score in an ODI chase for many years.
Highest individual scores in an ODI run chase
| Score | Player | Opponent | Venue | Year |
| 223* | Shubman Gill | West Indies | Guwahati | 2026 |
| 201* | Glenn Maxwell | Afghanistan | Mumbai | 2023 |
| 193 | Fakhar Zaman | South Africa | Johannesburg | 2021 |
| 185* | Shane Watson | Bangladesh | Mirpur | 2011 |
| 183* | MS Dhoni | Sri Lanka | Jaipur | 2005 |
| 183 | Virat Kohli | Pakistan | Mirpur | 2012 |
Gill’s knock was also his highest ODI score by a huge margin and came in a chase where India had to score more than 400.
3. Gill smashed the fastest 150 by an Indian in an ODI
Gill reached his 150 in only 89 balls, setting a new Indian record for the fastest 150 in ODI cricket.
He moved ahead of Ishan Kishan, who had reached the mark in 103 balls against Bangladesh in 2022.
Fastest 150 for India in ODIs
| Player | Opponent | Venue | Year | Balls |
| Shubman Gill | West Indies | Guwahati | 2026 | 89 |

4. Gill now has the fastest double century in ODI history

| 136 | Pathum Nissanka | Afghanistan | Pallekele | 2024 |
| 138 | Chris Gayle | Zimbabwe | Canberra | 2015 |
Gill’s 223* came from only 133 balls, meaning he scored 200 of his 223 runs at an extraordinary pace.
5. Gill joins Travis Head as a player with List A 200s batting first and second
Gill has now scored a double century in List A cricket both while batting first and while chasing.
His previous ODI double century came against New Zealand in Hyderabad in 2023, when India batted first.
His 223* against West Indies came while batting second.
This puts him alongside Travis Head among players who have scored List A double centuries in both innings situations.
That makes Gill’s List A record particularly interesting because his two ODI double centuries have come in very different match situations.
6. Gill moves to second for most runs in two consecutive ODI innings
Gill scored 110 in India’s previous ODI against West Indies and followed it with 223* in Guwahati.
That gives him 333 runs across two consecutive ODI innings.
Most runs in two consecutive ODI innings
| Player | Scores | Year | Runs |
| Martin Guptill | 105 & 237* | 2015 | 342 |
| Shubman Gill | 110 & 223* | 2026 | 333 |
| Shubman Gill | 116 & 208 | 2023 | 324 |
| Rohit Sharma | 52 & 264 | 2014 | 316 |
| Sean Williams | 174 & 142 | 2023 | 316 |
It is another indication of just how productive Gill has been in the ODI format whenever he gets going.
7. Gill’s 223* is the highest score in a List A run chase
Gill’s unbeaten 223 is not just the highest individual score in an ODI chase. It is also the highest individual score in a successful List A chase.
He went past Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar, who had scored an unbeaten 208 in the Dhaka Premier League in 2019.
That makes Gill’s Guwahati innings significant beyond international cricket as well. You can check the full scoreboard HERE.
8. West Indies became only the sixth team to have three ODI centurions in one innings
West Indies produced one of the most unusual batting performances of the match.
John Campbell scored 101, Shai Hope made 104 and Amir Jangoo scored 114.
It was the sixth instance in men’s ODI history of three batters from the same team scoring centuries in one innings. More importantly, West Indies became the latest team to join this rare list.
The earlier instances involved South Africa, England and Australia.
And there was an unusual twist: West Indies became the first team among those six instances to lose the match after having three individual centurions.
9. India extend their record against West Indies to 14 consecutive bilateral ODI series wins
India have now won 14 consecutive bilateral ODI series against West Indies.
The streak goes back to 2007. Before this series, ICC noted that West Indies’ last bilateral ODI series win against India came in 2006.

India chased it down with eight wickets and 39 balls remaining.

| 401/6 | New Zealand | Pakistan | Bengaluru | 2023 |

The Guwahati game therefore became another entry in the small list of matches where a team scored more than 400 but still lost.

India reached 200 in only 21.1 overs during the chase.
That broke India’s previous record of 24.1 overs, set against New Zealand in Indore in 2023.

The Caribbean side finally crossed the 400-run barrier in Guwahati, but India then chased the total down before the 44th over.

The India vs West Indies 2nd ODI was much more than a high-scoring match. West Indies became the first team to score three centuries in an ODI innings and still lose, while India completed the second-highest successful chase in ODI history.
At the centre of it all was Shubman Gill, whose 223 off 133 balls* brought a new set of records, including the fastest ODI double century and the highest individual score in an ODI chase.
