Every era in cricket introduces us to new upcoming stars—young talents who later go on to become legends of the game. From Virat Kohli to Steve Smith, we’ve seen fresh faces evolve into world-class cricketers. In today’s dynamic cricketing world, several promising youngsters from different countries are already turning heads with their performances. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the potential upcoming stars in cricket from each major cricketing nation, the players who might dominate the global stage in the coming years.
NOTE: While picking the upcoming stars in cricket from each country, we will consider the performances and potential of the players as of now. Sometimes a player might not have performed that well, but has shown promise and glimpses of the next big thing. We will also prioritize test cricket’s performances (along with other formats’ performances) more, as it is the pinnacle of the game.
Upcoming Stars in Cricket From Each Country
-
Yashasvi Jaiswal – India
What’s a better place to start than India? Yashasvi Jaiswal, fresh from a hundred in his England debut, has shown a lot of promise to become the next big thing in world cricket. Some might argue that Shubman Gill or Rishabh Pant could be the upcoming stars in cricket from India. But, Jaiswal has come ahead of Gill in the rising stars in cricket category as the latter has not had a great outing outside India in test cricket (so far). Gill has done well in ODIs. As far as Pant is concerned, he has already proved himself on the international circuit (especially in test cricket), so he cannot be considered as the future stars in cricket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, in his short career, has shown the ability to play big innings and has the temperament needed in test cricket. He has already scored a century in Australia, England, the West Indies, and India. The left-hander can also dominate the bowlers. If he stays at the crease, the scoreboard will keep moving. He can also be patient, as we have seen in a few of his innings. A 23-year-old youngster has also done well in T20 cricket. It is unfortunate for him not to get the chance to play in ODIs, as Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma have been doing well. But Yashasvi Jaiswal will be the one to watch out for in the future.
Other contenders from India – Shubman Gill and Tilak Varma.
-
Cameron Green – Australia
Cameron Green has already proved himself as one of the upcoming stars in the cricket world. He is one of the best rising all-rounders in world cricket. Green has the technique and the temperament to play all three formats and has proved his mettle for Australia. Along with his batting ability, he can give an extra bowling option to the captain. He can bring the right balance to the team.
For the last year or so, he has been struggling with some injuries and has not been able to go full throttle. He has played only as a batter in the ICC WTC 2025 Final. But he will be back in the near future as an all-rounder. Green is someone who can serve Australia in all three formats.
Other Contenders from Australia – Sam Konstas, Jordan Buckingham, and Jake Fraser-McGurk.
-
Harry Brook – England
Harry Brook is one of the upcoming stars in cricket, coming from England. In his short career, he has already shown his ability to become a rising star of cricket. Particularly, in test cricket, he has been outstanding. His real test will be when he plays against India in India, Australia in Australia, and other parts of the world regularly. But, he has scored runs against the Australian attack and also in Pakistan.
Harry Brook is someone who does not hold back from playing his shots. His ability to score freely makes him one of the most dangerous batters in world cricket.
Other Contenders from England – Jacob Bethell and Gus Atkinson.
-
Saim Ayub – Pakistan
Saim Ayub has already shown a lot of promise for Pakistan to become one of the future stars in cricket. He has done well in South Africa in his first outings, helping the team to win games in white-ball cricket. Saim Ayub can also bowl a few overs if needed. A 23-year-old youngster is also a good fielder, making him an overall package.
The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has to look closely and invest in Saim Ayub for the long term. Otherwise, another talent will be wasted from Pakistan.
Other Contenders from Pakistan – Arafat Minhas, Mohammad Harris, and Muhammad Hurraira.
-
Tristan Stubbs – South Africa
Tristan Stubbs is someone who has been looked at as the next big thing in South African cricket. In the last few years, South African cricketers have been retiring early, sometimes at the peak of their careers. Stubbs is someone who could become the upcoming stars in cricket. He now features in all three formats in the Proteas playing XI. His international career is still quite young, but it has a lot of promise. He plays the spinners well and has all the cricketing shots in his arsenal.
Other Contenders from South Africa – Dewald Brevis, Gerald Coetzee, and Kwena Mphaka.

-
Kamindu Mendis – Sri Lanka
How can we forget Kaminu Mendis from Sri Lanka if we are talking about the upcoming stars in cricket world? He is probably the best youngster in the recent past who has been performing on a consistent basis. The left-hander is equally good in all three formats and can bowl whenever needed. Mendis has done well in England and in home tests on difficult turning tracks. He might be the future star of world cricket.
Other Contenders from Sri Lanka – Dunith Wellalage, Pathum Nissanka, and Eshan Malinga.
-
Shamar Joseph – West Indies
Shamar Joseph has the pace and the ability to win games on his own. No one will forget his efforts to win a game for the West Indies in Brisbane in 2025, when he was struggling with an injury. He bowled his heart out in that historic test win for WI. West Indies, in particular, are facing talent drain as so many good players prioritize playing different leagues around the world, rather than playing for the country. Nicholas Pooran is a prime example of it in recent times. There were so many talented cricketers who have done that in the past and will continue to do that in the future. The country’s cricket board does not have the facilities that India, Australia, or England’s boards have.
Other Contenders from the West Indies – Alick Athanaze and Jewel Andrew.
-
Harry Tector -Ireland
Harry Tector has all the makings of the next big thing in world cricket. A stylish middle-order batter from Ireland, Tector has already shown maturity beyond his years with consistent performances across formats. He boasts an impressive ODI batting average of over 45, including multiple centuries against top-tier teams like New Zealand and Bangladesh, proof of his ability to thrive under pressure. As Ireland continues to grow in the international circuit, Harry Tector stands out as their brightest batting prospect.
Other Contenders from Ireland – Josh Little and Tim Tector.
-
Rachin Ravindra – New Zealand
Rachin Ravindra has the class and elegance to become one of the best batters in world cricket. In his short international career, he has already proved himself on a big stage. He has scored a lot of runs in the ODI WC 2023, scored runs in test cricket in different parts of the world, and has done well in T20 cricket at the top order. Rachin Ravindra knows how to pace his innings and how to win games for NZ. Also, he is a gun fielder and an extra bowling option for a captain. He is a utility player and an important member of the NZ setup at such a young age.
Other Contenders from New Zealand – William O’Rourke and Muhammad Arslan Abbas.
-
Towhid Hridoy – Bangladesh
Towhid Hridoy could be one of the upcoming stars in cricket. He could well be the next big thing in Bangladesh cricket. A naturally aggressive middle-order batter, Hridoy first made waves during the 2020 U19 World Cup, playing a key role in Bangladesh’s historic title win. Since then, he has seamlessly transitioned to senior international cricket, impressing in both ODIs and T20Is with his fearless strokeplay and ability to handle pressure.
Other Contenders from Bangladesh – Nahid Rana, Shoriful Islam, and Rishad Hossain.

-
Noor Ahmed – Afghanistan
Noor Ahmed has already established himself as a world-class spinner in world cricket. He plays league around the world and takes wickets in the middle overs. The left-arm spinner controls the game and takes wickets at regular intervals. He will look to replicate the performances in international cricket for a longer duration.
Other Contenders from Afghanistan – Azmatullah Omarzai, Ibrahim Zadran, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
-
Brian Bennett – Zimbabwe
Brian Bennett has already proved his worth in his short international career. He recently scored a hundred against England in England in one-off test. His technique and temperaments suits the order, and if he continues to do it, he could make his name in world cricket. Not just with the bat, his bowling skills is as good as anyone’s. He is a complete player with a lot of skill. Bennett brings a rare combination of power hitting and bowling at just the age of 21. He is truly Zimbabwe’s brightest prospect.
Other Contenders from Zimbabwe – Blessing Muzarabani and Vincent Masekesa.
