A stunning 270 by Ishan Kishan in the Duleep Trophy 2026 final has become much more than just a big score. The East Zone captain played one of the biggest innings in the history of the tournament and also broke several long-standing records.

Kishan scored 270 runs off 334 balls, with 30 fours and seven sixes, as East Zone posted a huge 708 against South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Kishan first retired hurt after reaching 250 runs. However, he returned later and continued his innings. He finally got out for 270, missing a historic triple century by just 30 runs.

His innings has now put him among the biggest individual performers in Duleep Trophy history.

Ishan Kishan Becomes No. 2 Among Duleep Trophy Captains

One of Kishan’s biggest achievements is his place on the list of highest individual scores by a captain in Duleep Trophy history.

Before Kishan’s 270, Woorkeri Raman held the second spot. Raman scored 250 runs for South Zone against West Zone in Rourkela in 1994.

Kishan has now moved past Raman.

Only Arun Lal is ahead of him. Lal scored 287 runs for East Zone against West Zone in Pune in 1986.

This means Kishan now has the second-highest individual score by a captain in Duleep Trophy history.

Ishan Kishan Surpasses Naman Ojha

Kishan has also broken a major record among wicketkeeper-batters.

His 270 is now the highest score by a wicketkeeper-batter in Duleep Trophy history.

The previous record belonged to Naman Ojha, who scored 217 for Central Zone against North Zone in Mohali in 2014.

Ojha scored 217 in the 2014 Duleep Trophy semi-final. He hit 23 fours and three sixes.

270 Is the Eighth-Highest Score in Duleep Trophy History

Kishan’s 270 has also entered the all-time Duleep Trophy record books.

His score is now the eighth-highest individual score in Duleep Trophy history.

The record still belongs to the late Raman Lamba, who scored a brilliant 320 for North Zone against West Zone in the 1987 final at Bhilai.

Kishan has now joined this elite list with his 270.

Second-Highest Score in a Duleep Trophy Final

Kishan’s innings becomes even more impressive when we look only at Duleep Trophy finals.

His 270 is the second-highest individual score in a Duleep Trophy final.

As per Cricinfo Stats, only Raman Lamba’s 320 for North Zone against West Zone in the 1987 Bhilai final is higher.

Lamba scored his 320 as North Zone made a huge 868 in that match.

Kishan now sits just below Lamba on the list of the biggest individual scores in a Duleep Trophy final.

Kishan’s Domestic Revival

Kishan’s 270 is also important because of where he is in his career.

The wicketkeeper-batter has been working his way back into the Indian team after a difficult period.

Kishan was among the players left out of the BCCI central contract list in 2024 after previously being part of Grade C.

However, he has continued to perform well in domestic cricket.

The biggest example came in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Kishan led Jharkhand to their maiden SMAT title. He scored 517 runs in 10 innings at an average of 57.44 and a strike rate of 197.32.

He also scored two centuries in the tournament.

One of them came in the final against Haryana, where he smashed 101 off just 49 balls. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

It was one of the best domestic T20 campaigns of his career.

Kishan Also Impressed in the T20 World Cup

Kishan continued his good form in the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Playing for India, he scored 317 runs in nine innings. His highest score was 77.

He scored those runs at an incredible strike rate of 193.29. He also hit 33 fours and 18 sixes.

Those performances made Kishan an important part of India’s T20 setup.

Now, his 270 in Chennai has added another side to his comeback story.

Kishan has shown that he can score quickly in white-ball cricket. But he has also shown that he can stay at the crease for a long time and build a huge innings in first-class cricket.

Could Ishan Kishan Make a Test Comeback?

There is no confirmed Test comeback for Kishan at the moment.

However, his 270 has started the conversation again.

Kishan has already shown his ability in domestic white-ball cricket. Now, he has scored a massive 270 in a major domestic first-class final.

The Indian Express also reported that his Duleep Trophy performance has reignited discussions about his Test ambitions.

This could be an important step for Kishan.

He was once mainly seen as a limited-overs wicketkeeper-batter. Now, he is building a stronger case across formats.

East Zone Take Control After Kishan’s 270

Kishan’s records have grabbed most of the attention, but his innings has also put East Zone in a very strong position in the final.

Kishan’s 270, Kumar Kushagra’s 101, Shikhar Mohan’s 85 and other contributions helped East Zone reach 708 all out.

Kishan and Kushagra also put together a huge partnership during the second day.

South Zone’s bowlers struggled to stop East Zone’s batters from scoring.

East Zone started Day Two at 385/4 and eventually crossed the 700-run mark before getting all out in 163 overs.

The huge first-innings total has given East Zone a commanding position in the final.

But the biggest story remains Kishan.
