The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is up and running with the first four games already completed. (1) Jacques Kallis (Champions Trophy, 1998)

The first ICC Champions Trophy happened in 1998, earlier known as ICC Knockout Trophy. South Africa (SA) won the inaugural season and became the only ICC trophy the Men’s team has right now.

They won the tournament by beating West Indies (WI) in the final by 4 wickets. SA chased down the target of 246 with 4 wickets and 3 overs to spare.

The legendary all-rounder Jacques Kallis played a huge role in SA’s trophy-winning campaign. He becomes the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 8 wickets.

In the final, Kallis took 5 wickets and scored an important 37 runs off 51 balls. He also becomes the Player of the Tournament.

(2) Venkatesh Prasad (Champions Trophy 2000)

Kenya hosted the 2^nd season of the ICC Champions Trophy (CT). New Zealand won a tight final against Team India at the Gymkhana Club Ground, Nairobi. Team India put in a decent total of 264 in the first inning. Sourav Ganguly scored a brilliant 117 runs off 130 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes.

NZ lost half of their side for 132 runs at one stage. Thanks to Chris Cairns’s match-winning hundred and Chris Harris’ crucial 46 runs, NZ won the game with 4 wickets and 2 balls to spare.

Although Team India didn’t win the tournament, Venkatesh Prasad has bowled well in the tournament. With 8 wickets, he became the highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

(3) Muttiah Murlidharan (Champions Trophy 2002)

CT 2002 didn’t end on a good note. The weather has had the last laugh in the end. India and Sri Lanka played the final, two times in two days, but still, there was no result possible due to bad weather.

In the end, IND and SL were declared joint winners. Muttiah Murlidharan has bowled his heart out in the tournament for SL. He took 10 wickets in the tournament, the most by any bowler in CT 2002.

(4) Andre Flintoff (Champions Trophy 2004)

Andre Flintoff was the highest wicket-taker in CT in 2004. He took 9 wickets in the tournament, helping England to reach the final of the tournament. Unfortunately, he ended up on the losing side in the final, against West Indies.

WI chased down a stiff target of 218 in the end. They won the game with 2 wickets and 7 balls remaining.

Flintoff also scored 129 runs in the tournament, with an average of 32.25.

(5) Jerome Taylor (Champions Trophy 2006)

WI had the opportunity to win back-to-back ICC Champions Trophy. But, it was Australia who dominated WI in the final. They bowled WI out for just 138.

Due to bad weather, they got the revised target of 116 in 35 overs. AUS won the game quite convincingly by 8 wickets.

Jerome Taylor bowled well in the tournament and took 13 wickets. In the final, he only managed to take one wicket and went for 42 runs in his 7 overs.

(6) Wayne Parnell (Champions Trophy 2009)

It was an era when AUS dominated world cricket. They won back-to-back CT by beating NZ in the final. NZ only managed to score 200 runs in the first inning.

AUS chased down the target with 4.4 overs and 6 wickets remaining. South Africa’s Wayne Parnell, with 11 wickets, becomes the highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

(7) Ravindra Jadeja (Champions Trophy 2013)

The left-arm spinner played an important role for Team India in winning the CT 2013. Not just with the ball, he batted well and scored crucial runs for the team.

As far as bowling, it was a time when England prepared some slow wickets for ‘The Ashes’. Ravindra Jadeja exploited the conditions to a good effect as the pitches in England and Wales have some effect left after The Ashes as well. He took 12 wickets in the tournament.

India won the tournament in a rain-affected final against England. It was a shorter game and India scored only 129 in 20 overs. At one stage, England was cruising towards victory but Team India held their nerves and won the game by 5 runs in the end.

(8) Hasan Ali (Champions Trophy 2017)

Before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, it was the last edition of the tournament. England and Wales hosted the tournament. Pakistan won the final against India by 180 runs. Fakhar Zaman scored a brilliant hundred to help PAK to put a huge total on the board.

While chasing, Team India had no answers to Mohammad Amir’s new-ball spell. Hardik Pandya played some shots in the end, but a mix-up between him and Jadeja cost Hardik’s wicket in the end.

Hasan Ali bowled outstandingly well in the whole tournament. He took 13 wickets in the tournament and played a crucial role in Pakistan’s trophy-winning campaign.

(9) Matt Henry (Champions Trophy 2025)

New Zealand’s Matt Henry took the most wickets in the CT 2025 edition. He bowled well in the whole tournament and took 10 wickets in 4 matches, at an average of 16.70. He bowled 188 balls and conceded 167 runs. Henry also took a fifer in the tournament. Unfortunately, he has to sit out the final against India due to injury. NZ lost the final against India as the Indians chased down a target of 252 in 49 overs.
